Rose City Baptist Church was established on the 9th of February 1969 to service the local community and district of Benalla, Victoria.
WHAT WE BELIEVE:
We believe the Bible in its original documents is the inspired Word of God, the written record of His supernatural revelation of Himself to man, absolute in its authority, complete in its revelation, final in its content, and without any errors in its statements.
The Bible is of supreme and final authority in matters of faith and practice.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 3:16.
Rose City Baptist Church uses the Authorised King James Version Bible for all ministries.
DOCTRINE OF THE GOD-HEAD
We believe that there is one, and only one, true and living God, infinite in every excellence; that in the unity of the God-Head there are three personal distinctions: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Genesis 1:1-2; Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:9; 1 Timothy 3:16
GOD THE FATHER
We believe that God is a sovereign, living, intelligent and rational being. He has a sovereign will, power and authority and is actively engaged in carrying out His will to completion.
Genesis 18:25; Isaiah 57:15; John 4:24; Romans 8:28-30
GOD THE SON
We believe that Jesus Christ is the second person of the triune God, the only begotten Son of God who exists eternally with God, and He is the Saviour whom God sent into the world, to redeem the world.
We believe that Jesus Christ took upon Himself humanity and dwelt among men here on earth; that He was at one and the same time, both God and man.
John 1:14; Philippians 2:5-8
His Virgin Birth
We believe that Jesus Christ came to earth in the flesh by way of the virgin birth, being conceived in the womb of a virgin by the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25
We believe that Jesus died by way of crucifixion on the cross, and that he died as man’s substitute suffering the full wrath of God and thereby paying the penalty for man’s redemption.
Matthew 27:35-54; 1 Corinthians 15:3; 1 Peter 1:18-19
We believe that the blood of Christ is the only atonement for the sins of man and that it is sufficient to wash away the sins of every person.
Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 9:22-26; 1 John 1:7
We believe that Jesus Christ rose bodily from the tomb and through His resurrection there is a sure hope of immortality and everlasting life.
Luke 24:1-7; Romans 4:25; 1 Corinthians 15:4-9
We believe Jesus Christ ascended back into Heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father, fulfilling His ministry as Mediator.
Luke 24:50-51; Acts 2:31-33; Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 2:1
We believe in the personal, pre-tribulational and pre-millennial return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; His pre-tribulational return in the air for the church and His pre-millennial return to set up his Kingdom on earth.
Zechariah 14:1-9; 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 5:9-11; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8; Titus 2:13; Revelation 3:10, 4:1
We also believe in the literal fulfilment of the prophecies and promises of the Scriptures which foretell and assure the future regeneration and restoration of Israel as a nation.
Genesis 13:14-17, Jeremiah 30:6-11; Ezekiel 37; Romans 11
Christ as Head of the Church
We believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ, that He alone is the Head of the Body the Church, into which all true believers are immediately baptised at the time of salvation by the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:36; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Colossians 1:18
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person equal with the Father and the Son and of the same substance and nature. He is the agent of the new birth through conviction and regeneration, and that at that time He seals, indwells and baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit fills, empowers and distributes service gifts to believers, but that the sign gifts were restricted to the Apostolic Period.
John 3:5-7, 14:16-17, 15:26, 16:13-14; Romans 8:9, 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:13, 13:8-13; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 2:20, 4:11-12, 5:18
We believe in the personality of Satan, that he is not merely an abstract power or influence, but a living, personal being; that he is the god of this world and the prince of the power of the air; that he is constantlygoing up and down the earth seeking whom he may devour. He does not possess the attributes of God. Satan is the author of sin, and he and his angels shall be eternally punished in the lake of fire.
Genesis 3; Job 1:7; Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:13-17; Matthew 25:41; Luke 22:31; 1 Pet 5:8; Revelation 20:10
We further believe that it is not possible for true children of God to be indwelt or possessed by demonic spirits, but may through acts of disobedience subject themselves to demonic influence.
Ephesians 1:14, 4:30; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 1 John 4:4
We believe in the literal interpretation of the Genesis account of creation, that all that came into existence was brought forth by a direct act of God and not by evolution.
Genesis 1:2; Exodus 20:11; John 1:3; Colossians 1:11-17; Hebrews 11:3
We believe that mankind was created by God for the purpose of fellowship with God and bringing honour and glory to His name.
Colossians 1:16; 1 Corinthians 10:31
Fall Of Mankind
We believe that man was created in the image of God. While in a state of innocence, man voluntarily sinned and thereby not only incurred physical death, but spiritual death, which is separation from God; that all human beings are born sinners with a sinful nature.
Genesis 1:26-27; Deuteronomy 1:39; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:2-10, 3:23, 5:12
We believe that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; that the new birth is new creation in Christ Jesus; that it is instantaneous and not a process, neither is it by works of man, because man’s righteousness is as filthy rags in His sight. In the new birth, the one dead in trespasses and sins is made partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life, the free gift of God.
Isaiah 64:6; John 3:3; Romans 6:23, 11:6; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Colossians 2:13; Titus 3:5-6
Every true child of God possesses eternal life, being justified by grace through faith and is sealed with the Holy Spirit, is safe and secure for all eternity and cannot lose his salvation.
Romans 8:35-39; 1 Corinthians 5:1-5, 11:30-32; Hebrews 12:5-11
We believe in the soul liberty of every individual. Soul liberty is the implementation of the truth that we must obey God rather than man and that no church can act as his conscience. He has the right to correctly interpret the Scriptures for himself and will answer to God for the way in which he does. He has, as a believer, the Holy Spirit to guide and enable him, apart from any other ministry of man or the church.
Romans 14:5; 1 Corinthians 2:9-14; 2 Timothy 2:15; 1 John 2:27
Resurrection And Judgement
We believe there will be a resurrection of the saved and of the lost; of the saved unto eternal life and of the lost, at the Great White Throne Judgement, to receive their final eternal conscious punishment.
Daniel 12:2; Matthew 25:34-46; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15, 15:51-55; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:5-15
We believe what is normally referred to as the universal church is, in reality, the Body of Christ and that it is a New Testament organism. It was established by Jesus Christ who is its sole head, revealed through the apostles, empowered and perpetuated by the Holy Spirit, composed of all born again believers in Christ, both Jew and Gentile and called out from the world. It is referred to in the New Testament as both the bride and the body of Christ. It began on the day of Pentecost and will be complete at the coming of Christ at the rapture.
Matthew 16:17-18; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Ephesians 3:21, 5:23; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
We believe in the importance of the local church, that it is an assembly of born again baptised believers, united in organisation to practice New Testament ordinances, to meet together for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching and a united testimony; and to actively engage in carrying out the Great Commission. Its scriptural officers are pastors and deacons, whose claims and duties are clearly defined in the epistles to Timothy and Titus.
Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 13:1-3, 16:5; 1 Corinthians 11:2; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9
The Government Of The Local Church
We believe that the local church has the absolute right to self-government, free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organisations; that the one and only Head is Christ through the Holy Spirit; that it is Scriptural for true churches to cooperate with each other in contending for the faith, and in the furtherance of the gospel; that every church is the sole and only judge of the measure and method of its cooperation, all matters of doctrine, membership, policy, government, discipline, and benevolences.
Acts 11:22,29-30, 13:1-3, 15:2; Romans 15:26, 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:8-9
The Ordinances Of The Local Church
We believe that the ordinances given to the local church are two: baptism and the Lord’s supper. Baptism is by immersion of believers, thus portraying the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s upper is the partaking of the bread and the cup by believers as a continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of Christ until He returns.
Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-47, 8:26-39; 1 Corinthians 11:2,23-34
